This upcoming game, which was unveiled in early August, will be the first to mint on the Arbitrum network and will feature on the popular NFT marketplace, Magic Eden.
While the exact launch date remains undisclosed, Ubisoft has revealed that the inaugural mint will include 10,000 Citizen ID NFTs. These NFTs will not only provide early access to the game and other benefits but will also track governance activity. The power of each Citizen ID card will be determined by a player’s performance, including their standings in seasonal rankings and achievements. A more robust ID translates to greater access to exclusive features and rewards.
One significant advantage of holding a Citizen ID is governance rights. Ubisoft aims to engage its community in shaping the game's future, granting NFT holders voting power on crucial narrative and directional decisions.
The dynamic nature of these NFTs, which adapt based on player activity, is becoming a favored approach to generate utility within web3 games. As NFT trading volume has experienced a slow recovery in 2024, Ubisoft's choice to launch Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. on Arbitrum while also expanding onto Magic Eden reflects the industry's ongoing efforts to innovate and explore new opportunities.
In terms of gameplay, Captain Laserhawk is a competitive top-down shooter set in an alternate reality where the United States has evolved into a dystopian technocracy known as Eden. The game features the animated character Rayman as the face of the regime and draws inspiration from the TV animation Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. Additionally, players can expect to encounter a variety of other Ubisoft intellectual properties, including Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, and Beyond Good and Evil.
